Is it better to use a laptop on battery or on AC power?

I bought a new laptop from HP. I am not sure if I should remove the battery while I am working on my laptop or not. What is better for my laptop battery, to keep it while the laptop is plugged in or to remove it? or to charge it and then pull out the plug and when the battery is flat then plug it again?

I use my laptop alot (at home and sometimes at work as well).
